GlobeMed at USC is a student-run nonprofit organization dedicated to furthering the movement for global health equity. As part of the national GlobeMed network, USC's chapter has a long-term partnership with Care Net Ghana, an incredible organization working to provide maternal health care and promote education and rights for children in rural Ghana. There are three major components of what GlobeMed does:
1. Education: Discussing global health issues within the USC chapter and promoting awareness around campus. We also attend a yearly summit in Chicago, meeting up with more than 40 other chapters from around the country and speakers like Dr. Paul Farmer.
2. Fundraising to help support their partner, Care Net Ghana, achieve its goals –so far they have raised money to pay for the first fetal monitor in the whole region as well as supporting a new computer center for the kids.
3. Grassroots On-site Work (GROW) - After spending a semester or year learning about global health and raising money for our partner, they have the opportunity to travel to Ghana and visit the community they’ve been working to support. Trip dates will depend on member interest, but they hope to organize a trip either during Winter Break or next summer. Past members have counted GROW trips as some of their most rewarding college experiences.
In their effort to revamp GlobeMed at USC, they are looking for passionate, enthusiastic students from all different majors and backgrounds to help lead GlobeMed next year.
They are currently accepting applications for the Co-President position - specifically, students who are passionate about promoting health and social justice, experienced with leadership and organization, and committed to making GlobeMed a success. This is a really unique opportunity to help shape a new club at USC.
