Reminders for Applicants

Dear Pre-Health Applicants,

Many of you have expressed concern in regards to your supplemental application deadlines, particularly the requirement for earlier receipt of your letters of recommendation at some of the medical schools. There are five schools in particular, including UC Davis, UC Irvine, UCLA, UCSF and UCSD which ask applicants to complete their supplemental applications within “30 days from the date of notification.” Given these instructions, applicants who are applying to these five schools must adhere to the policies of the individual medical schools and honor their deadlines.

Note: If you are still waiting on letters of recommendation, please proceed by completing your portion of your supplemental application(s). That is, all application documents including additional forms, fees, additional transcripts, and supplemental application(s). All applications will be screened once they are complete. Keep in mind that admissions is normally “rolling,” and completed applications will be evaluated on a first-come, first-served basis. In speaking with the admissions representatives for the five schools listed above, I have found them to be student-centered and sensitive to the challenges applicants face including the submission of their letters of recommendation. Applicants may call the Offices of Admissions to request a deadline extension should they feel they need additional time to complete their applications.

Ultimately, it is YOUR responsibility to know your individual deadlines and communicate them to the evaluators writing your letters of recommendation.
