Andrea Tone holds the Canada Research Chair in the Social History of Medicine. She is author of The Age of Anxiety: A History of America’s Turbulent Affair with Tranquilizers as well as other works on women and health, medical technology, sexuality, psychiatry, and political economy, particularly the intersection between patient experience, cultural contexts, and technological and economic change in nineteenth and twentieth-century America. Her work has been featured on ABC News, CBC, PBS, the History Channel, and National Public Radio. In May 2011, she received the American Psychiatric Association’s 2011 Benjamin Rush Award for her contributions to the history of psychiatry.
