I wanted to let you all know about a program that offers a small group of students (and health professionals) an international medicine curriculum and trip to Port-au-Prince, Haiti to volunteer at a hospital. I have traveled and done medical volunteer work on 14 trips to Port-au-Prince over the past 25 years and I wanted to bring the depth and richness of this experience to others. I have attached a brochure that introduces the program and feel free to ask me any questions or chat up previous participants, post-baccs: Chris Farina, Scott Christensen, Carla Graichen, and Kristen Chung.
The hospital where we work requests that we have a high ratio of students to health professionals and we will be prioritizing students who can bring a health professional (nurse, physicians assistant, or doctor) with them. So, contact friends and family and pass on the brochure. Feel free to share on my info. They can also contact my father, Dr. Bill Boyce, who will be joining us. What to expect:
Participation in the curriculum, four seminars (2 hours each), is mandatory. Seminars will cover topics related to international medicine such as infectious disease, Haitian culture, and Healthcare and Disaster Response.
We will be volunteering and will be at the discretion of the hospital. Most likely we will be working in an adult out-patient clinic. On the previous trip, students took vitals, assisted/shadowed doctors, and organized medical supplies.
