Pittsburgh PostBacc, Pre-Doctoral Research Program

If you are an underrepresented student who is looking for “glide year” opportunities prior to PhD or MD/PhD study, please  to look at UPIRTA – the University of Pittsburgh Intramural Research Award program.  Funded by the PA Dept of Health, UPIRTA’s goal is to increase the numbers of underrepresented scientists working in the areas of Infectious Diseases and Autism research.

We have 2 grant-funded research spots available in Infectious Diseases (looking at MRSA, C. difficile, A. baumannii, staph aureus and modeling for H1N1), and up to 3 positions available in Autism research.  I can’t state strongly enough how desperately we need diversity in the scientific workforce; autism research has dire needs in particular.  Both programs will fund GRE test preparation.

The positions will run from August of 2011 to May of 2012.  The application receipt deadline is May 16 of 2011, though early application is suggested.

Information is at www.healthdiversity.pitt.edu/programs/upirta.php.
