VMCAS has started delivery of applications for 2012 matriculation to schools. Please visit the AAVMC Advisors Website (http://www.aavmc.org/Students-Applicants-and-Advisors/Advisor-Resources.aspx) to access this year’s (and last year’s) advisor portals.
Tips to pass on to your applicants:
· Applicants should e-submit their application as soon as they have completed it and SHOULD NOT wait for evaluations to be submitted.
· Missing evaluations is the number 1 reason for applications to remain incomplete. Remind your applicants to continue to stay in touch with their evaluators. The deadline for evaluations is: October 3rd, 2011 at 1:00pm Eastern Time. The evaluator portal will not accept late evaluations.
· VMCAS only accepts electronic individual evaluations. Remind applicants to follow ALL the instructions for Committee & Composite letters.
· Once an application is submitted, applicants can still add evaluators and designations (schools) to their account up to the deadline: October 3rd, 2011 at 1:00pm Eastern Time.
· Between 80% and 85% of applicants wait until the final two weeks to submit their application. This significantly raises the risk of not completing by the deadline.
· While VMCAS does have a deadline extension policy, 0% were approved during the last two application cycles. Reasons for extensions eligible for approval are: Natural Disasters (Hurricane Katrina); Acts of terrorism (9/11); Complete VMCAS system crash.
